Course Description:
Trainee
teachers need to understand the concepts related to map work. Hence, this
course focuses on the knowledge and skills related to map reading and
interpretation, emphasising landforms and their effect on relief and
human activities.
The
course is also designed to help trainee teachers gain the knowledge, skills,
and concepts needed to be effective and resourceful teachers using mapping
skills successfully.
Objectives:
Students should be able to: -
· Identify major landform or regions on a map
· divide a map into major physical regions
· Identify and describe features associated with different types of landforms and rock and soil types
· Describe settlement types, structure and functions
· Explain the influence of relief on location, type and structure of settlements
· Identify and discuss the effects of relief, geology, soil, and water availability on economic activities.
· Discuss the effects of relief on roadways and railways.
SST225 Physical Geography Advanced

This course is designed to enhance students' understanding of erosion, transportation and deposition processes within Physical Geography, which are evident in the world around you. It builds upon the knowledge and skill acquired in Introduction to Geography and enhances content knowledge.
Course Objectives:
· Improve students’ understanding of key processes within Physical Geography
· Link these processes to the formation and change of landforms over time
