TP211 PRACTICUM II Guided Individual Study
The Individual Study (Research) course is offered to all year 2 teacher candidates across programmes and specializations. Each teacher candidate conducts a research in which he/she creates, use and assess the effectiveness of teaching/learning materials, strategies and methods that are designed for a specific target group. The research has two components: the practical component which requires the teacher candidate to plan and execute four (4) lessons using the teaching/learning material, strategies and methods selected, and the written component.
Each teacher candidate must work in close collaboration with his/her personal tutor throughout the stint of this practicum course.
2022-2023TP212 2022-2023PRACTICUM II- Individual Study

TP 131 Introduction to Early Childhood Education Classroom
This course, which comprises of two phases, is specifically designed for teacher candidates on the Early Childhood Programme.
- Observation (Phase 1) is designed to identify and address critical issues encountered by Guyanese teachers in the early childhood classrooms and provides an opportunity for them to create a personal philosophy to address same.
- Team Teaching (Phase 2) is particularly structured for teacher candidates to work collaboratively with peers to plan and execute lessons under the supervision of personal tutors.
TP132 Introduction to Primary Classroom
This course, which comprises of two phases, is specifically designed for teacher candidates on the Primary Programme.
- Observation (Phase 1) is designed to identify and address critical issues encountered by Guyanese teachers in primary classrooms and provides an opportunity for them to create a personal philosophy to address same.
- Team Teaching (Phase 2) is particularly structured for teacher candidates to work collaboratively with peers to plan and execute lessons under the supervision of personal tutors.
TP133 Introduction to the Secondary Level
TP133 is a practicum course that is specifically structured for teacher candidates enrolled on the secondary academic and pre-vocational programmes. This practicum course comprises of two phases:
- The Observation Phase - During this stage of the practicum, teacher candidates are afforded the opportunity of critically analyzing Guyana's preparedness for the educating of 21st century learners. Teacher candidates would also craft their personal philosophy that encapsulates their goals as teachers operating in the 21st century.
- The Team-Teaching Phase - It is at this stint of TP133 that primary teacher candidates work collaboratively with their peers to prepare resource units and lesson plans for lessons they would teach in a Simulation Exercise.
TP121 Preparation for Practicum
Description
Preparation for Practicum is a non-credit compulsory course for all teacher candidates. As a preparatory course, the content and activities are designed for 30 hours.
This course aims at equipping teacher candidates with the essentials of desirable classroom protocol. It allows for the teachers to be seen as individuals functioning in a multiplicity of roles to bring about positive change in the lives of their students. Exposure to this course will allow teacher candidates to be initially prepared for the classroom experience in the teaching profession. More specifically, the knowledge and skills gained will be used in TP 131/132/134 (Practicum I) as they engage in observation and team teaching.
