This course is designed to help students to understand the genre of poetry
As a student, this course allows you to experience the following:
1) A sense of what is poetry and what makes it different from prose ( the characteristics of poem)
2) Some Types/ forms / structure of poems
4) Literary Devices used in Poetry
5) A deeper appreciation of poetry
ENG 123 Introduction to Prose Fiction
Welcome to ENG 123 Introduction to Prose Fiction. This is a SEMESTER II course for English Majors at the Cyril Potter College of Education. Teacher -Candidates are exposed to the Elements of Prose Fiction and they are expected to examine selected short stories and novel to analyze these elements. This is a 15 week course and it will be available for Teacher- Candidates who have successfully completed the Semester 1
The Teacher- Candidates are expected to examine six selected short stories and one novel. In Unit one they will examine the Elements of Prose in the short stories and in Unit two they will assess the elements as they are presented in the novel.
Teacher - candidates will also need to participate in the Forum Discussions that serve as the platform for discussion on the various readings.
ENG212 Poetry II
This second year Poetry course is designed to develop the teacher candidates’ skill in analyzing, interpreting and exploring the deeper levels of meanings of a wider range of poems. Additionally, teacher candidates’ critical analysis will also consider the context of the literary periods – Elizabethan, Neoclassic, Romantic, Victorian, and Modern – in which the poems were written. The course is also structured to develop the teacher candidates’ comparative analysis skills with focus on content, form, style and poets’ craft.
ENG213 Teaching of CSEC Novels and Plays
The Teaching of CSEC Novels and Plays is a course for the English Majors student- teachers that provides them with the required skills to teach Prose Fiction and Drama in the English B classrooms.
This course is also referred to as Methodology for Teaching CSEC Novels and Plays and trainees will be exposed to classroom Methods that enhance their effectives in delivering content to their perspective learners.
ENG 124 TEACHING OF POETRY
This is a semester II course that is designed for Yr. I Teacher - Candidates of the Cyril Potter College of Education. It is a course that gives the Teacher -Trainee the opportunity to plan and develop creative approaches to teach poetry. This is a Methodology course, therefore it is expected that Teacher Candidates will also need to be familiar with guiding principles for classroom practices and develop curriculum materials in keeping with these principles .
They are need to complete three units for a successful completion of the course. they must also participate in the weekly discussion Forum
